WHAT IS VAPING?

Despite the trending popularity of vaping, many people still don't understand what vaping is and they can't seem to see a difference between it and smoking tobacco.

Before we go a little more in depth, let's look at a basic and quite simple fact.
Smoking tobacco (contains tobacco... obviously).
Vaping (Contains no tobacco).

The fact that vaping in Australia is restricted by tobacco laws makes that fact a little more confusing to someone who hasn't put more than two minutes of research into it.

So, what is vaping?
Simply put, vaping is the process of using a vaporiser or electronic cigarette to convert a material (such as e-liquid) into a vapour which can by inhaled.
Vaporisers themselves come in a multitude of variates, colours, shapes and sizes. From a $15 stick that looks like a pen, to box mods with fancy accessories looks and a lot of customisable controls.

Smoking VS Vaping
One of the biggest draw cards to vaping of course, is the ability for smokers to move over to a much less harmful lung-fed hobby.
With thousands of flavour options, including tobacco, smokers have the chance to try different tastes when they vape, not to mention the health benefits.

What happens when you switch from smoking to vaping?
8 hours: Your body processes the carbon monoxide from cigarettes better.
24 hours: Because vaping doesn't affect blood oxygen levels, you've already significantly decreased one of the deadly risks to smoking, heart attacks.
72 hours: It's been three days and your body is starting to get rid of all the tar your body has accumulated during your years of smoking.
2-3 weeks: Your lungs have improved and your circulation is getting better each day, which means better oxygen flow, so it might be time to hit the gym with your new found energy.
6-9 months: By now your lungs should be at full capacity and your smokers cough should be on its way out, or already gone.
5 years: Your blood vessels have been repairing, lowering the risk of a stroke closer to that of a non-smoker.
10-15 years. By now (varying results of course) your body should have returned to almost that of a non-smoker. Your risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease have greatly dropped.

What is in e-liquid?
Other than the obvious flavours that are on the label, e-juices usually contain two main ingredients, PG (propylene glycol) and VG (vegetable glycerin) which are both completely safe for ingesting.

Some misconceptions...
“Vaping is just like smoking.” Smoking burns material and chemicals which you inhale directly into your body. Vaping is a vapour created from heating e-liquids.

“Vape pens explode.” While it is true that some mods devices have exploded, this is due to the user not understanding their device. When someone uses an advanced vaping device (called a mech) they must learn proper battery safety, if not, it can lead to issues like batteries venting.

“Vaping liquids are dangerous, you don't know what you're putting into your body.” E-liquids literally have their ingredients listed and usually contain only 3 or 4 ingredients, including VG and PG which are food grade additives and thinners.

With everything, the best idea when you hear something like this is to do your own research.
